Tuition for the 2023-2024 school year has risen to $49,700, a 6% increase from $46,900 last year. Adjusted for inflation, this is an increase of around $1,200. Chief Financial Officer David Weil ’93 said the higher tuition is used to cover rising operating expenses and to give faculty and staff raises in pay. “Insurance, utilities and supply costs all naturally go up over time, not to mention the need to ensure our employees receive wages commensurate with their professional talents,” Weil said.

The documentary “Harvard-Westlake High,” created and produced by Líto Knight ’14 in his senior year at the school, was screened in Ahmanson Lecture Hall on Dec. 9. The documentary consists of a series of interviews with students who graduated in 2014, and is described as a “time capsule to be opened and examined in 2024.” After undergoing major life changes, Knight decided to finally share the stories he documented in the film.

The November Coffee House took place after school on Monday, Nov. 11 in the Chalmers Lounge. The show was open to all students to either perform or watch and Prefect Council provided free snacks from Nothing Bundt Cakes and Starbucks Coffee. Senior Prefect Victor Suh ’25 said Coffee Houses are spaces where the community can celebrate talented students.

Starting next school year, the administration will remove all Advanced Placement (AP) classes, following a removal of most APhumanities and art classes, Head of upper School Beth Slattery said. Slattery considered removing AP classes for some time but finally decided to go through with it this year because many teachers felt restricted to teaching to the test in their AP classes.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) selected over 16,000 studentsas National Merit Semifinalists, including 32 members of the Class of 2025. In California, students needed to achieve a score index of 221 on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) to be selected as a National Merit Semifinalist.
