While precipitation has largely ended, the FOX 5 Storm Team warns that icy conditions and high winds will continue to pose challenges. The Georgia Department of Transportation says road conditions have started to deteriorate as a winter storm covers Atlanta metro area roadways with snow and ice. GDOT crews were able to pretreat major metro area interstates with gallons of brine prior to the start of the snowfall. As of 8 a.m. Friday, crews had switched to a "plowing posture" with about 100 plows deployed. But GDOT warns the worst is still to come.

The FOX 5 Storm Team is closely monitoring the potential for a high-impact winter storm that's expected to blast North Georgia and the Atlanta metro area with snow, ice, and rain, and is sure to cause some power outages and treacherous road conditions. The National Weather Service on Wednesday issued a Winter Storm Watch for metro Atlanta and the majority of North Georgia beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday through Saturday morning.
