(KALB) - A six-year-old child is fighting for his life after police say his stepfather allegedly assaulted the child, leaving him with cuts and stab wounds to the face, neck and chest areas. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said on June 1, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Louisiana Highway 31 in Leonville.

(KALB) - A Cenla sheriff is showing support for a U.S. senator who represents the State of Louisiana, as his seat is up for reelection in 2026. Grant Parish Sheriff Steven McCain is endorsing U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana to continue his role in the Senate. Cassidy is up for reelection to his Senate seat in 2026, and has already seen competitors campaigning for a seat in Washington to represent Louisiana. Sheriff McCain was re-elected as sheriff in 2023 with 80 percent of the vote.

(KALB) - A New Jersey Federal Judge made a “lengthy order” on Wednesday, saying that the effort to deport former Columbia grad student and pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil is likely a violation of the U.S. Constitution. According to the Associated Press, Judge Michael Farbiarz ruled that the government’s justification for removing Khalil from Louisiana could lead to arbitrary enforcement.
