On Saturday, five individuals were added to the Greene County Fine Arts Hall of Fame. Greene County School District Activities Director David Wright was the emcee and started the program by saying that this year’s induction class stretched from one coast to the other, with individuals living in Washington, Maryland, Pennsylvania and two in Iowa. The first to be inducted was 1971 Jefferson High School graduate, Dick Oatts.

The Greene County Board of Supervisors will meet twice tomorrow morning. The Board will hear an update from the Jefferson City Administrator, and then consider approving the second reading of a new ordinance on public sex acts.

The Jefferson Municipal Swimming Pool will be open soon for the season, and the Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a few more lifeguards. JPRD Assistant Director Henry Pohlmeyer says the pool is planned to be open by the Memorial Day weekend and there are not many lifeguard openings available. “So yeah, naturally with the opening of the pool, we do need a couple more lifeguards. So there is still applications available.

A non-profit organization in Jefferson recently made a donation to another worthy non-profit organization. The Jefferson Kiwanis Club made a $500 donation to the Greene County 4-H program. According to the Kiwanis Club, this contribution has become a regular budgeted item, due to the 4-H program’s importance of providing activities to children in the community.

Tonight is the 3rd Annual Greene County Fine Arts Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The event takes place with a reception at 6pm in the high school commons area, followed by the actual ceremony at 6:30pm in the auditorium.

The Jefferson Does Drove #196 is encouraging everyone to take their moms out to eat tomorrow. According to the non-profit organization, the Jefferson Does are hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet at the Jefferson Elks Lodge tomorrow from 10:30am-12:30pm. Along with a variety of food, mimosas and Bloody Mary’s will also be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 for adults, $7 for those 4-8 years old, and anyone three and younger can eat for free.

The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department recently completed a project at one of its parks. JPRD Director Nathan Kral says Washington Park recently had the playground equipment replaced, due in part to a $35,000 grant from the Greene County Community Foundation. He appreciates the Jefferson Public Works crews for removing the old structure and the installation team from the contractor of the new equipment, Boland Recreation. He talks about needing to replace everything that was there before.

Greene County 4-H’ers that want to show sheep or goats at this year’s county fair or the Iowa State Fair must attend the weigh-in event this Saturday. Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Sheep and Goat Weigh-In will be happening from 7:30-11am tomorrow at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson.

The Greene County Medical Center recognized National Nurses Week with an annual celebration. On Thursday, the DAISY Award was presented to two individual nurses, who exemplified what the award is about which is showing extraordinary care to a patient. There were 15 nominees that came from other colleagues, patients and their families, or from the community. This year there were two winners: Jordan Kral and Brix Carstens.
