As an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma and longest serving Native American in the House of Representatives, tribal issues have always been at the forefront of the policy decisions I have made and advocated for as a member of Congress, as the first Native American chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and as co-chair of the Native American Caucus. When it came to our nation’s immigration policies, the Biden administration refused to enforce the law. Within just the first 100 days of the previous administration, President Biden took 94 executive actions, including removing Remain in Mexico and Title 42, halting border wall construction, and reinstating Catch-and-Release, in an attempt to make it easier for immigrants to illegally enter and stay in our country. These calculated actions resulted in a raging illegal immigration disaster.
