(KGET) — A petition started by the injury law firm Chain Cohn Clark is calling on elected officials to enact stricter penalties, license suspensions and required alcohol monitoring for first-time DUI offenders. The petition has over 1,000 signatures as of March 24, 2025. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man is dead after pickup truck struck him east of Bakersfield Friday morning. The crash happened around 6 a.m., on Weedpatch Highway near Kerrnita Road. Highway patrol says a 56-year-old man was driving northbound on Weedpatch Highway when a pedestrian crossed the street outside of a crosswalk. “Upon our arrival, and upon emergency personnel arrival they pronounced the pedestrian deceased…he succumbed to his injuries,” said CHP officer Jorge Toro.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bring Back The Kern and the City of Bakersfield were back in court Thursday afternoon as the debate to let the Kern River flow through Bakersfield persists. Multiple attorneys on both sides argued both for fish and against fish. An old law, enacted in 1915, states that water levels need to stay at a level high enough to sustain wildlife. Attorneys argued in front of three justices at the 5th district court of appeals in Fresno.
