THE BRONX- Genesee Valley-Belfast won 5-1 over Eldred on Monday in The Bronx to start 5-0 on the season. Coach Dennis Miles passed Craig Phillips to be the winningest coach in New York State high school baseball history with 807 victories. GVB scored two in the second, one in the third and got two insurance runs in the sixth to break the game open. Ethan Davenport improved his record on the mound to 3-0, allowing two hits with 14 strikeouts and four walks.

The Wellsville softball team comfortably moved past Cuba-Rushford on Friday. Kennedy Perry was the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts and no walks allowed. For Cuba-Rushford, Jordyn Radomski went four innings with three strikeouts, five walks and four hits. The Lion hitters included Teagan Burke going 2-3, while Makenna Dunbar was also 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Kennedy Perry was 2-4, and Brynn Hallock was 2-3 with a three-run HR in the fifth inning with five RBI's.

The Allegany-Limestone softball team has raced out to a 5-0 start in non-conference play. Only one game has been decided by three runs or less, and the big question is if A-L can continue this streak of success heading into the CCAA West 1 league schedule. Last year they were 11-8 and 7-4 in the league, finishing fourth out of seven teams. Now, with their 5-0 start, bigger dreams are ahead. “This team is so very young,” Arnold said. “But they are very knowledgeable about the sport of softball.

HORNELL- Wellsville’s Makenna Dunbar threw a perfect game for Wellsville with 12 strikeouts in the Lions 18-0 thrashing of Hornell Wednesday. Other contributors to the blowout win were Teagan Burke, 4-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs. Dunbar was 1-2 with a home run, Kennedy Perry was 2-4 with a double and RBI, and Brynn Hallock went 3-4 with a double, RBI, and three runs.

The Allegany-Limestone baseball team has had two wins in narrow one-run contests to start 2-1 on the year. They lost their first game of the season to Wellsville, and they were down 10-0 to Randolph after two innings. But they used a six-run sixth to propel them to an amazing comeback, winning 12-11. Most recently, they took down Portville 7-6 in a nine inning affair. “I wasn’t really sure where we would be after three games,” Hemphill said.
