For once, wind is actually a valid elevator conversation. Iowa isn't even in peak tornado season for 2025 yet (June & July, by standard definition) and we're already setting weather records. We didn't get a ton of snow dumped on us this winter, so what gives? If you've been outside at all in the last couple of weeks, you probably have a good guess. via GIPHYYep, Iowa's windy spring start has set a record. Specifically, it was the second windiest March on record for Iowa and a handful of other states.

It's the bug season. I love summer, but it's when the bugs come out to play and I'm not here for that. Ick. But now, authorities have found an invasive kind of bug in 17 states, including Iowa. Spotted lanternflies, who are no stranger to being problematic in American summers, are back. Yippee. And as of today, they and their eggs have been found in Iowa, but not Illinois, according to a tracker from World Population Review.

The question we ask every summer. Lately, many corn farmers in Iowa are doing the planting, and they say it's been going really well. According to the USDA's latest Crop Progress Report (which came out on Monday), 11% of Iowa's corn crop was already in the ground as of Sunday. So yay for the farmers for being on top of it!But the eternal Midwestern question remains: will the corn be knee-high by the 4th of July? The answer to that could be more like head-high by the 4th of July.

Coach Kenney leading the way💪🏼

Coach Scott Kenney is 1 of 4 remaining original coaches that opened the doors to Seven Lakes in Aug 2005. His list of accomplishments as both boys & girls XC is lengthy but his real impact on Spartan student athletes cannot be measured. @SpartanTrack_XC @kfinnesand @JHamon17 https://t.co/AhFB5wennG
