Who will be USC's backup quarterback in the fall? The short answer is 10 practices into USC's spring camp, we still don't know. Officially, Lincoln Riley hasn't even named a starter for next season, but after he started the Trojans' last four games in 2024, Jayden Maiava will almost certainly retain the job. That leaves early enrollee freshman Husan Longstreet and veteran transfer Sam Huard as Riley's backup options.

USC tight end Lake McRee has been shut down for the rest of the Trojans' spring camp due to injury, Lincoln Riley said Tuesday. What injury? Riley wouldn't exactly say, only pointing to McRee having a couple of nagging injuries. "We've gotten a lot of good work on Lake," Riley said. "We're gonna kinda shut him down and let the body calm down. He had a couple of little small things he was dealing with throughout camp, and he pushed through.
