GREENSBORO, N.C. — In its lone regular season matchup, NC State women’s basketball held UNC-Chapel Hill to 66 points and 36% from the field, but head coach Wes Moore thought his team had too many defensive breakdowns in its 66-65 loss. At that point in the season, Moore thought he had a good team but felt it needed to step up defensively to reach its full potential. “We've got a good team,” Moore said after the loss in mid-February.

GREENSBORO, N.C., — Through three quarters, No. 1 seed NC State women’s basketball senior guard Aziaha James and sophomore guard Zoe Brooks combined for just 16 points on 7-25 shooting. It just seemed like it wasn’t their day, and it would cost the Wolfpack against No. 9 seed Georgia Tech in the quarterfinal of the ACC Tournament. But then the fourth quarter arrived. It allows fans, coaches and players to appreciate the legends that came before them.

An easy tip-off victory turned south, resulting in a turnover on the first play of the game. Minutes later, star senior guard Aziaha James recorded her second foul on an aggressive reach, immediately putting the Wolfpack’s top scorer on the bench. “Being one of the leaders on this team and having two fouls in the first few minutes, it’s not acceptable for me,” James said. “I gotta do better than that.

Texas guard Tre Johnson grabbed his teammate's missed jumper. Johnson went for a layup that was off the mark but forward Arthur Kaluma grabbed his miss. Kaluma passed it out to the perimeter, allowing Texas to reset its offense again. On the same possession, the ball made its way back to Johnson who made a corner 3 to give the Longhorns a 60-57 lead with under two minutes to go.

CHAPEL HILL — Hard. Tough. Together. It’s the motto that head coach Dave Doeren has preached throughout his 12 years as head coach of NC State football. And there may not be a better example of it than the final two minutes of NC State’s rivalry week matchup against UNC-Chapel Hill. Down 30-29 with just 59 seconds remaining on its own 39-yard line, the Wolfpack found itself in a self-dug hole.

Returning from its Florida road trip, NC State volleyball took care of business in its 3-0 sweep of Tobacco Road rival Wake Forest, extending to an 8-2 home record and winning 10 of its last 11 matchups against the Demon Deacons. “At home, the atmosphere and the fans make you want to do so good for them, the people who love and respect that always come out for us,” said senior middle blocker Jada Allen.
