The Public Art Commission voted on officers and reappointed its advisory members during a meeting Wednesday afternoon at Citizens Square. Nancy Stewart, who was elected to a two-year term as chair in June 2024, announced Wednesday that she is stepping down from the position. Among recommendations from the commission’s governance committee was the elevation of vice chair Colleen Huddleson, an appointee of Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Tim Parsley was recommended to become vice chair.

The 2025-26 local theater season will include contemporary titles, classic stories and the return of performances to the Arts United Center stage. Fort Wayne Civic Theatre begins its season July 11 to 13 with “Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville” at Clyde Theatre, followed by “Misery” from Sept. 12 to 28 at ArtsLab.

Storytelling takes center stage as Arena Dinner Theatre opens “Big Fish” tonight. Based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the movie directed by Tim Burton, “Big Fish” tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who thrills people with larger-than-life tales. His son, Will, is about to become a father and is determined to find out the truth behind Edward’s stories. The musical is directed by Christopher J. Murphy and Leslie Beauchamp.

Several weeks ago, The Journal Gazette received a call asking for help finding an archive photo from the Caswell-Runyan fire in Huntington. Unfortunately I don’t believe I was unable to find the specific photo the caller was searching for, but I did find some dramatic images from this day in history. As smoke rose over Huntington on June 7, 1962, about 140 firefighters from the area converged on a blaze that caused an estimated $3 million in damage.
