Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, heard a knock on their door early morning June 14. A man dressed as a police officer parked a vehicle resembling a squad car in the couple's driveway, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. At roughly 3:30 a.m. two Brooklyn Park police officers arrived at the Hortmans' home to perform a wellness check after state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were shot in their Champlin home.

Authorities say the home of state Rep. Melissa Hortman, DFL-Brooklyn Park, was broken into days after she was killed in a targeted attack on June 14. The Brooklyn Park Police Department said in a May 18 release that plywood covering a window in back of the house was pried off, and the window was broken. Police say they were informed of the alleged burglary at roughly 8 a.m. June 18.

Melissa Hortman and her husband and shooting state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. CentraCare announced that Dr. Jennifer Boelter is not connected with the shooting suspect.
