Southwest Airlines has experienced a lot of changes this year, and there's a few things Minnesotans need to know. In July 2024, the airlines said it will ditch its open seating policy for assigned seats, starting in the second half of 2025. So long, Boarding Group C, which practically ensures a middle seat. In February 2025 Southwest laid off hundreds of workers as part of its cost-cutting shakeup. It was the first layoff in Southwest's 53-year history.
