A lifelong passion for sports along with a penchant for storytelling helped turn Newy Scruggs ’23 EMBA into one of the most recognizable figures in Dallas-Fort Worth media. “Who could have imagined that an Army kid born in Wiesbaden, Germany, would have the life, career and adventure that Newy Scruggs has had?” Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said about the longtime sports director at NBC 5 (KXAS-TV). Scruggs grew up near North Carolina’s Fort Bragg, renamed Fort Liberty in 2023.

Texas Tech rolled past the Longhorns, 78-67, behind a game-high 21 points from Pop Isaacs on Saturday night at Austin’s Moody Center. Tyrese Hunter led the Longhorns with 20 points, Max Abmas adding 18 and Dillon Mitchell another 16 points for No. 20 Texas; but Texas Tech went 28-for-53 (52.8%) from the floor, amassing 41 second-half points en route to its fourth win over the Longhorns in its last five tries.

No. 10 Texas handed No. 24 West Virginia its first loss of the 2023-24 season Saturday afternoon in Morgantown, defeating the Mountaineers 70-49 for its second Big 12 road win this week. The Longhorns’ defense has been stifling in consecutive conference outings, even without AP preseason second-team All-American Rori Harmon (ACL) in the lineup, holding the Lady Raiders and Mountaineers to an average of 48 points while improving to 2-1 in conference play and 15-1 overall.
