The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred in St. Mary Parish on July 23. The body of Jimmy Ruff Sr., of Bayou Lourse, was turned over to the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office after he was involved in a fatal boating incident. According to a prepared statement, agents received a call around 4 a.m. on July 23 about a fatal boating incident in Bayou Chene.
Investigation continues for Jeanerette standoff

Louisiana State Police Troop I is continuing to investigate the Jeanerette standoff that injured three officers and took the life of Cpl. Segus Jolivette. The incident took place Thursday afternoon following the Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office delivering a search warrant to a mobile home near the intersection of Hubertville Road and Martin Luther King Drive in Jeanerette. The warrant resulted in an hours-long standoff that involved suspect Nyjal Hurst.

Louisiana State Police Troop I is responding to an officer-involved shooting in Jeanerette. According to a prepared statement, LSP detectives were notified shortly after 4:30 p.m. Thursday of a shooting on Hubertville Road near Martin Luther King Drive in Jeanerette. The officer-involved shooting involved multiple law enforcement agencies, according to the statement. Investigators are working to gather information, and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is responding to process the scene.

The Iberia Parish School Board will vote on a resolution concerning the Industrial Tax Exemption for Bagwell Energy Services in New Iberia at Wednesday’s meeting. Twenty New Iberia students will be getting a shot at community college thanks to a recent scholarship funded by the City of New Iberia through the American Rescue Plan Act. The $100,000 scholarship will provide $5,000 each to 20 students who are selected for the scholarship, and will offer crucial support to help them achieve their academic and career goals.
