The 1970s were met with optimism and progress from the industry. In fact, the National Association of Building Service Contractors (NABSC) entered the decade calling it the “Dawn of a New Era”, and it was.
During those early 1970s, NABSC looked to expand outside the U.S. and officially changed their name to Building Service Contractors Association – International (BSCA-I), although it was most commonly known simply as BSCA.

I was 25 years old when I earned an editor title, which was roughly half the age of other managers on the team. That same year, I was also the second highest ranking female in the company and often found myself the only woman in leadership meetings. I knew at this early age that I’d have hurdles to face head on.
I had to fight to be both heard and seen. I had to prove myself over and over. There were times when it was hard, but every experience was worth it because it made me who I am today.

Research shows that the average person will complain anywhere between 15 and 30 times a day. Most times, they don’t even realize they are doing it. For example, how often does a person complain about the temperature being too hot or too cold. Maybe there’s a smudge on the mirror or the toilet paper roll is flipped upside down.
Whether large or small, at their core, complaints spread negativity.

Like other managers, I pride myself on creating an environment where the staff sticks around, but eventually, everyone leaves. When this happens, staff members don’t just take their skills and experience, they take years of hard-earned knowledge about customers, markets, and in the case of salespeople, sales strategies. If managers don’t act proactively, this institutional knowledge disappears, leaving the company struggling to maintain relationships and revenue.

Those efforts were effective for the short term, but was scrutinized as it became more widely known that proper cleaning contributed to public health and welfare.

A new presidential administration always brings turmoil and speculation. A lot of promises are made on the campaign trail with many never coming to fruition. It’s too early to know exactly which legislative and executive actions President Trump will make in his first few weeks and months in office, but there is potential for sweeping changes ahead. For BSCs, some of these will be beneficial while others will prove challenging.
Let's start with the good news.
