Yes, this happened large scale during the early invasion of Ukraine by Russia. So many intended parents abandoned their surrogate babies. But the point is, this can be fixed through legislation, rather than prohibiting people altogether.

I read one where the intended parents rejected one of the twins because it was diagnosed in the womb with Down syndrome. they ended up taking the neurotypical and leaving the affected child with the surrogate. Very complex issue

Poor women also go through infertility issues and guess what THEY JUST HAVE TO ACCEPT THEIR FAITH BECAUSE THEY CAN’T AFFORD FERTILITY TREATMENTS/SURROGACY. You don’t see rich women running to donate their womb to them for the noble cause that is surrogacy. Who are we fooling?

@nifemi_os Adoption is another sort of human trafficking (in many cases) lots of unethical practices surrounding how children are adopted.

This incident happened due to the absence of surrogacy laws in Thailand at that time. After it happened, Thailand did not altogether ban surrogacy, it regulated it and stopped foreign nationals from engaging surrogates in their country. That's the way to go.

There was a case in Thailand where the surrogate had twins, one healthy and one with Down syndrome. The parents took the healthy child and left the other with the surrogate. So please before you call an opinion stupid, make sure “your comprehension isn’t shit”

People would say, why do IVF when you can adopt a child, you adopt and later, it's oh you bought the child, you stole the baby from parents because they are poor. You go through surrogacy, you are bashed for child trafficking and reducing women's bodies to commodities.

So shouldn't the argument then be increasing access for all classes of people within a strictly regulated framework, instead of totally prohibiting the idea?

Consent doesn't abolish exploitative dynamics. You can consent to work in a mine for a few peanuts, it doesn't make the conditions you labor in fair.
