By Cort ReynoldsADA __The Ada High School boys basketball team lost a tough defensive battle 48-40 to visiting Van Buren in a Blanchard Valley Conference contest on January 17. The Bulldogs fell to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the BVC after the hard-fought defeat. Van Buren improved to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in BVC play with the win. VB turned the game around with a decisive 16-6 third period.

VAN WERT – The visiting Wapakoneta boys basketball team lost a 57-47 battle at Western Buckeye League rival Van Wert Friday night. The Redskins were outscored 18-8 in the fourth quarter to break up a tie game heading into the final stanza. Wapakoneta fell to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in the WBL with the defeat, while the Cougars improved to 5-9 and 2-3 in WBL play after the win. “Offensively we did some good things,” said Redskin head coach Troy Elchert.

By Cort ReynoldsVAN BUREN __ The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team lost a defensive 35-29 battle to Van Buren in a Blanchard Valley Conference contest on January 16The tough road defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the BVC. Van Buren improved to 6-8 overall and 4-3 in BVC play with the home victory. “The girls played hard and battled all game,” said Bulldog third-year head coach Zach Ricker. Ada trailed 9-4 after a low-scoring first period.

By Cort ReynoldsADA – The host Ada High School wrestling team swept a Blanchard Valley Conference tri-match convincingly on Senior Night, January 15. The Bulldogs beat Riverdale 48-27, and trounced McComb 54-12. Ada finished on a 24-6 run vs. the Falcons to pull away and win what had been a close match at the midway point. The Bulldogs raced to a 36-0 lead vs. the Panthers and were never threatened.

BATH – The visiting Wapakoneta girls basketball team lost 40-30 to Bath in a Western Buckeye League game Tuesday night. The Lady Redskin shooting was as cold as the frigid weather outside over the final 24 minutes. Wapakoneta scored half of its points in the first period, yet went scoreless in the second stanza. Bath outscored the Redskin girls 32-15 in the second half to pull off the comeback victory. The defeat dropped the Lady Redskin record to 4-11 overall and 1-4 in the WBL.
