The news that long-running ITV detective drama, Midsomer Murders, is set to be adapted for the stage, titled Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift, has excited many fans of the show and theatregoers alike. However, one thing it didn’t do was come as a shock. Over the past few years, theatre-makers have begun to tune into the fandoms that surround some of the biggest TV classics, particularly sitcoms, by transferring them from the small screen to the stage.

Over a decade since the hit noughties show ended, a new Desperate Housewives spin-off, currently named Wisteria Lane, is said to be in the works. The revamp will follow five new frenemies who live on the iconic Fairview Street. The new show is set to be streamed on Hulu and produced by Disney’s Onyx Collective. Actress Kerry Washington will serve as an Executive Producer, alongside Pilar Savone, and Natalie Chaidez.

Image: IMDbNighty Night took the viciously cruel landscape of the noughties comedy scene, which also saw the rise of Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais and Chris Morris to name a few and made it her own. The humour was so close to the bone and was often much more sickom than sitcom. As a result, Nighty Night epitomised the noughties dark comedy scene.

Now my proud Scots/Scouse family heritage aside, what makes Terri McIntyre such a fantastic character is her lack of giving two craps about anything and pretty much anyone.

This is just one of the many poignant lines that makes Matthew Seager’s, In Other Words, such a powerful piece of contemporary theatre. The play itself follows Arthur (played by Seager himself) and Jane’s (Lydia White) love story, which is one tinged by sadness and the devastating reality of Arthur’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
