MEMPHIS, Tenn. — October really was a treat for us in the Mid-South. What was supposed to be a pretty uneventful month, saw two very rare sights in our sky. Around October 10th, we saw the Northern Lights in the region for the 3rd time this year. Very rare, but also a treat to see. We got in some photos from our nighttime ABC24 Weather Watchers showing the colors in our sky. A bit later in the month we had a comet visit us in the evening sky.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The potential to see the Northern Lights in a good portion of the United States is growing for Thursday night. Let's talk about what we are expecting and how you can view this event from your own house. Over the past week, there has been multiple solar events including flares and coronal mass ejections. These have been pointed toward the Earth and have created some minor events here including some northern lights in near the Great Lakes and Canadian border.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It has been quite some time since portions of the Mid-South has seen rain. This week, looks to be the hottest stretch of weather so far in 2024, and the lack of rain is not only playing a role right now but, is setting up conditions we could be seeing going into September. As of August 26th, Memphis has only recorded .2 inches of rain for the entire month.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Our weather has been rather dry recently here in the Mid-South. If we look at Memphis on August 21st, we are around 3 inches behind average rainfall with likely a week or more ahead with no rain in the forecast. Our partners at the North Mississippi Storm Chasers caught images on Wednesday of a brush fire in Holly Springs National Forest. Scenes like this may become more common in the weeks ahead if the forecast continues to stay dry.

That gloomy weather from today stretches in Saturday. We likely start off with some dense fog out there. #Buffalo #WNY #NYwx #wxonthe1s https://t.co/nbqtGHwC2A

You know, I'd take a good 70° day let alone an 80° one right now, seems like we have been stuck in the 40s/50s forever now.😆

Dreaming of warmer weather? Me too! We're actually not that far from when we historically get our first 80 degree day. Spectrum News 1 #WxOnThe1s #Buffalo #Rochester #Syracuse #Albany #HudsonValley #Binghamton #Watertown #NYwx https://t.co/oemVMUKUFi
