As the population of survivors and liberators dwindle, the annual Governor’s Holocaust Commemoration at the Ohio Statehouse continues to keep stories of the Holocaust at the forefront through second-hand accounts. As Gov. Mike DeWine shared in his opening remarks on April 23, this year marked the second year since he became governor that the annual event did not include testimony from a first-hand witness, but rather the recounting of events from survivors’ extended families.

More than 1200 people attended the 2025 Allison Senser Community Purim Festival March 9 at the Celeste Center at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, according to Ben Kozberg, event planning committee co-chair. “This is the first year we are really doing this,” Kozberg told the Columbus Jewish News at the event. “It’s been a lot of fun.

The College Football Playoff National Championship trophy has made its way to Columbus following The Ohio State Buckeyes' 34-23 win over the Notre Dame fighting Irish in Atlanta, Ga. on Monday. A line of people in scarlet and gray wrapped around the aisles of the Jerome Village Kroger in Plain City to get a chance to see the trophy up close and take pictures.

Over 1,000 residents and community members enjoyed a day of apple-themed activities at Wexner Heritage Village’s Sweet as Honey Apple Festival on Sept. 15 in Columbus. The annual event rings in the Jewish New Year ahead of the Rosh Hashanah holiday, which will be from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4. The event’s activities were based around the customary treat of apples and honey, including an apple toss, apple balloon-making, tie-dying, face painting and more.
