The Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center was temporarily evacuated this morning. According to a notification from the Platteville School District, there was an unidentifiable odor detected in the buildingaround 8:00 a.m. and the school was vacated to ensure staff and student safety. After an investigation by the Platteville Fire Department, it was determined safe to reoccupy the Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center building. The odor has dissipated the building and the odor is no longer present.

Dubuque Police said one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Dubuque. 56-yerar-old Rosemere Mellenberger of Benton was transported by private vehicle to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital for treatment of her injuries. A Dubuque Police Department crash report states that on Saturday at 1:20 PM 48-year-old Erin E. Rigby of Dubuque was driving west on Carter Road when she failed to yield at a stop sign while attempting to turn onto John F. Kennedy Road.

Iowa DOT Bridge Washing Causes Detour for Eastbound Traffic on Julien Dubuque Bridge. Due to bridge washing being performed by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), the eastbound lanes of the Julien Dubuque Bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday through Friday. The westbound lanes of the bridge will remain open. Eastbound traffic will be detoured using U.S. Highways 61/151 to the Iowa-Wisconsin Bridge.

Police said an intoxicated driver struck and injured a skateboarder in Dubuque. 22-year-old Alex A. Mayne of Dubuque, was transported by private vehicle to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital for treatment of his injuries. According to a Dubuque Police Department crash report, Mayne was traveling on his skateboard west on Fifth Street in the middle of the street at 10:10 p.m. Friday, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Kristi M.

A Wisconsin couple was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for forced labor, according to an indictment that was unsealed on Monday in Madison. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Luis Abreu, was charged with seven counts of forced labor, conspiracy to commit forced labor and seven counts of alien harboring for private financial gain. His wife, Cybell Abreu was charged with seven counts of forced labor and conspiracy to commit forced labor.

Students at Platteville High School will have in person classes after a virtual learning day on Monday due tohail damage on the building. Platteville School District Superintendent Jim Boebel said crews were out Monday putting a protective layer on the building’s roof after Friday’s hailstorm. Most of the damage happened on the eastern half of the building. Boebel said based on statements from contractors, they have anywhere from 200 to 300 different leak spots and some broken skylights.

A man criminally charged in a deadly OWI crash entered a plea agreement in Iowa County Court. According to online court records, 55-year-old Thomas Naughtin of Stoughton pleaded guilty to homicide by use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration. As part of the plea agreement with prosecutors, the court dismissed another charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office reported Naughtin crossed the centerline of Highway 78 near Moscow on Dec. 5, 2023.

On Sunday at 5:47 AM The Iowa County Communications Center received a report of a domestic disturbance on W Division St in the City of Dodgeville. Dodgeville Police Department and Iowa County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene. As a result, 39-year-olf Jason L Harried of Dodgeville was arrested on charges of Battery and Probation Violation. Harried was transported to the Iowa County Jail where he remains in custody at this time.
