Oops, they did it again. That’s right, after being rejected outright in the latest, ill-timed, usually-low-voter-turnout-to-benefit-progressives, springtime elections, our city council once again generously served up another slice of cake while completely ignoring the voice of the people who screamed loudly on April 8, “We don’t want your ideas, follies or leadership anymore!”I’d say they have deaf ears, but that would imply they are at least attempting to listen to the people.

Let me begin by saying I believe the voters of Grand Junction did the right thing in re-electing Cody Kennedy to the city council. I also believe they did the right thing in electing Laurel Cole, Robert Ballard and Ben VanDyke. Of the four, I only know Cody a little bit through email and phone conversations, and yes, from those communications I believe he’s a good man with a public servant’s heart.

Sure, it’s a poor paraphrasing of the adage saying when seconds count, the police are minutes away. And please note, this isn’t a column about the policing of our communities, although given the evil intent of the legislation I’m going to address, the police in your community are about to become willing or unwilling accomplices in what is sure to be a giant spread of violations of our inalienable rights.

I just got done reading and watching a few stories on how our elected betters in Denver are attempting to “balance” the next year’s budget, and I’ll just have to admit I have no idea what the hell they are doing. Then again, it’s become apparent neither do the vast majority of “lawmakers.”Let’s just start at the glaring, main problem with the state’s budget. It’s the fact they need to CUT $1.2 BILLION to make up the gap between revenues and spending.

And that’s whether you declare it as a news story or make it an agenda item for a city council meeting or whether that “agenda item” basically became a doxxing for “up to 20” people who are indeed at risk in their lives.
