Three Jennings County High School girls basketball players were recently named to the Hoosier Hills Conference Girls Basketball All-Conference Team. That trio helped the Lady Panthers to a 5-1 record in HHC play and the regular-season conference title. Junior Mollie Ernstes and sophomore Etta Young were first-team honorees, and senior Madelyn McIntosh was an honorable mention selection. Ernstes averaged 22.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

The Jennings County Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team captured a 48-31 victory over visiting Scottsburg Middle School on Feb. 4. Delaynee Ritz led the Lady Panthers offensively with 14 points, and she was joined in double figures by teammate Coraline Stevens, who had 10 points. Mia Wilder provided nine points, and Brianna Phillips and Bradleigh Matern scored eight and seven points, respectively. Jennings County followed that up with a 40-19, road victory over South Dearborn on Feb. 6.

COLUMBUS — The visiting Jennings County Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball squad claimed a 25-14 victory over Central Middle School on Feb. 5. Jaydence Scruggs paced the Lady Panthers offensively with 13 points, and teammate Elin Speer scored nine points. Teammates Lauren Keener and Halle Hughes contributed two and one points, respectively. One day later, visiting Jennings County followed that up with a 32-0 victory over South Dearborn Middle School.

NEW ALBANY — The visiting Jennings County High School boys basketball team suffered an 86-73 loss to New Albany on Feb. 6. The Panthers — who shot 47% from the field and made 12 3-pointers — lost despite a 37-point effort from senior Carter Kent. Kent made 14 of 22 field-goal attempts and accounted for half of the team’s made 3-pointers. He also provided seven assists and six rebounds. Junior teammate Cash Millspaugh also made four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points.

The Jennings County High School girls basketball squad built an early lead and held off visiting Franklin Community on Jan. 30, claiming a 55-50 victory. The two teams also played on Dec. 28, with the Lady Panthers rolling to a 58-35 win. In the rematch, Jennings County led 14-9 after one period of play, 28-19 at halftime and 43-29 entering the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers cut into the lead in the fourth quarter thanks in part to some of its nine made 3-pointers.
