Middlesbrough chiefs have said they will take their time to conduct a thorough review of the season and the direction needed to move forward positively, rather than make any knee-jerk reactions this summer. The meetings to discuss where the season went wrong for Boro, and crucially, what needs changing to ensure they’re better placed next term, will ultimately determine whether Michael Carrick remains in charge next season or not.

Middlesbrough target David Strelec has broken his silence on discussions he had with clubs in January over a potential transfer, while admitting that he will be open to a move this summer. Boro held conversations with the striker and his club Slovan Bratislava in the January transfer window as they sought a replacement for star man Emmanuel Latte Lath. Celtic were also interested and had a £7million offer turned down for the 27-year-old.

The current expectation is that none of Middlesbrough’s five loanees will be back at the club next season. Their loan spells effectively came to an end on Saturday when Boro were beaten by Coventry City to end hopes of making the play-offs. Four of the five loan players were involved in the defeat, with Ben Doak absent having picked up an injury at the end of the January which ended his campaign early.
