The 50-year-old actor, who also featured in the film Trainspotting, will play Rob Robinson in the 90-minute CBBC special, which is an adaption of Dame Jacqueline’s modern reimagining of E Nesbit’s classic The Railway Children.

    One of Scotland's most beloved literary characters is returning to the nation's television screens this spring. The BBC has announced a new adaptation of Sir Ian Rankin's best-selling Inspector Rebus novels. The six-part crime series was filmed in Edinburgh and Glasgow last year. It will star Outlander star Richard Rankin in the lead role - Det Sgt John Rebus - and is adapted by Black Watch author Gregory Burke.

    The widow of a civil servant who died after catching Covid has accused ministers of putting more effort into hiding mistakes than learning from them. Louise Slorance's husband Andrew contracted the virus while being treated in hospital for cancer in 2020. Ms Slorance was reacting to Nicola Sturgeon's evidence at the UK Covid Inquiry in Edinburgh. And said she would "never forgive" those involved for what happened.

Internationally-renowned Vanishing Point’s new workspace is located on the top floor of a converted office block in Cadogan Square. It will not only provide a base where the company will develop its own national and international projects, but also offer free rehearsal and development space to other creative companies and individual practitioners.

    A group of academics at the University of Edinburgh hope a third bid to show a controversial documentary on trans issues will go ahead on Wednesday. The film Adult Human Female is due to be shown at a venue in George Square. Two previous attempts to show it have been cancelled after pro-trans activists protested at the events. They claimed the film includes "a clear attack on trans people's identities", a claim denied by both the film-makers and those trying to show it.
