    Breaking ground on affordable housing A significant milestone has been reached in council’s endeavour to address the existing housing shortages in the region. Construction of the first Ararat Housing Enterprise home was completed last week. The newly built three-bedroom home, managed by local real estate agent Ray White Ararat, is set to welcome a new tenant before Christmas.

    THE annual Ararat Retirement Village Ladies Auxiliary Open Garden Day was an outstanding success, with hundreds of people touring through some of Ararat’s best gardens last Sunday. Five local gardens were opened to the public – Kate and Wayne Gason’s garden in Barkly Street West, Maree and Russell Potter’s stunning garden in Jenkin Street, Bill and Penny Jones colourful garden in Banfield Street and Andrew McMillan’s family garden in Port Fairy Road.

    Runners take their mark for charityA group of Wannon runners who raised more than $100,000 for charity last year are pulling on their running shoes again to raise much needed awareness and funds for CJD. The 12 Wannon runners are part of a 21-strong team taking part in this year’s Run for CJD from Adelaide to Terang, via Mildura, to raise money and awareness for a good cause.

    By Ellen Anderson. LAST Sunday marked a significant milestone for Dorothy “Dot” and Neil “Stick” Turner as they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Their journey together began in 1960 at a Saturday dance in Ballarat, where fate brought them together. “This man kept annoying me all night, and the next Saturday night, who arrived at the dance. The same bloke,” Dot said. That persistent and charming ‘bloke’ was Neil “Stick” Turner, whose shared love for dancing kindled a beautiful relationship.
