In the meantime, we took our questions to an immigration attorney for insight on ICE procedures. Christy Parker shared her story after she and her employee Kerlin Moreno-Orellana were arrested by Jackson Police on Monday. 16 WAPT was the only station there as they were arrested. Moreno-Orellana is originally from Honduras. After being booked by Jackson police, he was taken to the Hinds County Sheriff's Office and detained by ICE Thursday morning. Police said they are both accused of illegal dumping in south Jackson. Parker has a different story.

The Greenwood LeFlore Consolidated School District announced a fifth-grade student has died because of gun violence. In a Facebook post, the district said Zameria Jones died after being shot, but the post did not say when she was shot. She was a student at Threadgill Elementary School.State Sen. Derrick T. A Milwaukee man accused of killing and dismembering a Mississippi native has been found guilty. Nineteen-year-old Sade Robinson went on a first date with Maxwell Anderson and wasn't seen again. It took a jury less than 30 minutes to deliberate and find Anderson guilty on all counts, including first-degree intentional homicide or first-degree reckless homicide, mutilating a corpse, arson and hiding a corpse.

A heavy police presence was seen Wednesday at the Oyo Hotel located on Interstate 55 East Frontage Road. 16 WAPT crews saw officers place multiple shell casing markers down along the side of the building. Police were also seen measuring the distance between each marker. Several people were outside when we arrived, and police appeared to be questioning witnesses on scene. This is a developing story.

Hope is the theme across central Mississippi, with Tuesday's municipal election bringing in a wave of new leaders. In Jackson, Sen. John Horhn received a majority of the votes, becoming mayor-elect. Jacksonians hope that with new leadership, the city will head in the right direction. "He was the senator for forever, so he knows Jackson, so it shouldn't take the next two years, the next three years, he should be able to step in and get it together," said Stacey Evans.
