    Of all the murals in Sidney, one in particular always catches the eye of passersby. The Ocean is a mural painted by renowned artist IceBear, located on the side of the Fairway Market. It was originally painted in 1999, in celebration of the ‘International Year of the Ocean.’This now-iconic mural features a montage of captivating oceanic imagery, such as viperfish and a storm-tossed Coast Guard vessel.

    The BC government is providing new funding to Indigenous Peoples of the province, with the aim of the funds being to address violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. The funding is coming via the Province’s ‘Path Forward Community Fund,’ which was created in 2022. Through the program, nearly $21 million has been invested in community safety endeavours, which includes an additional $5 million this year through the National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence.

The festival will take place in Sooke’s Fred Milne Park on Sunday, August 10th, and tickets are now on sale for the event.
