A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY continues for the Beartooth and Absaroka Mountains into Tuesday morning. A FROST ADVISORY is in effect for the Bitterroot and Flathead valleys tonight. Some towns in Montana had record highs last weekend but Monday's weather was a reminder that it is still spring. Cooler temperatures and widespread showers, even some mountain snow, moved through most of the state. Tuesday will be similar with scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.

Meteorological summer began on June 1st. In the weather world, summer is comprised of June, July and August. Astronomical summer begins on June 20 this year. A HEAT ADVISORY has been issued for parts of western Montana for Saturday. Drought conditions have eased heading into the beginning of June. It's still dry in parts of the state but there has been some improvement. May was a pretty wet and cool month for many areas. The lone spot of "extreme" drought that persisted over Powell and western Lewis & Clark Counties has been lifted. Saturday is the final day of May, and get ready for some heat.

A HEAT ADVISORY has been issued for parts of western Montana for Saturday. Thunderstorms are moving through western Montana and wildfire smoke from Canada is moving through eastern Montana. Major wildfires have developed in parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Some of that smoke is being steered toward eastern Montana. Unfortunately there does not appear to be significant precipitation heading to those fires so periods of smoke may be visible in Montana for a while.

This stretch of beautiful, warm spring weather will continue for the next few days to finish up the month of May. Most of May has been wet and cool, so this recent sunny and warm weather is welcomed and deserved. Thursday will be a bit warmer with highs in the mid to upper 80s. A weak cold front will move through the western part of the state in the afternoon with scattered showers and thunderstorms. This front will continue working across the state Thursday night into Friday.
