Oh, are we doing this thing again? This whole weekly recounting of a creepy anti-LGBTQ+ person? Honestly, I could start a Creep of the Minute column and still wouldn’t be able to keep up. I just finished reading a book called “The Oppermans,” about a Jewish family living in Germany as Nazism becomes all the rage. It is deeply unsettling how closely this book aligns with what is happening right now in the United States. It is also, in many places, super boring.

Something that pops into my head a lot (besides the Mentos jingle) is the phrase, “It was a kinder, gentler time.” It’s what my grandparents said when I interviewed them for an undergrad history class project. They were talking about the 1950s. My grandparents, both of whom are no longer living, were white and upper-middle class. They were the kind of people for whom the 1950s were ideal.

I love The Onion. They truly have their finger on this country’s political pulse. In fact, several of their recent headlines were so believable they could have come from the Washington Post. Examples include: “Gavin Newsom Sits Down For Podcast With Serial Killer Who Targets Homeless” (This would not surprise me, considering Newsom has used his podcast to platform terrible folks like Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk.

Pride Month is fast approaching, and Pride events nationwide are watching the corporate sponsorships they have been able to count on in the past dry up like they’ve been hit with a giant rainbow ShamWow. For example, San Francisco Pride “is dealing with the potential loss of $300,000 in corporate sponsorship for its hugely popular annual parade, funding needed ahead of June’s Pride Month.
