On March 25, Rümeysa Öztürk was abducted by plainclothes immigration agents outside of her apartment in Somerville, Mass. Öztürk, a Tufts University Ph.D. student, was targeted for writing an op-ed in the Tufts Daily calling for “the equal dignity and humanity of all people,” public affirmation of the Israeli genocide in Gaza, and for the university to disclose its investments and divest from companies with direct or indirect ties to Israel.

We have been camping on Library Mall for 12 days in solidarity with the people of Gaza. In that time, we’ve faced both physical attacks from police and attempts to mischaracterize our movement. Those who engaged with us know the encampment at UW was created to advance a set of clear demands, rooted in historical precedent, to end our university's complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
