A group of Union Theological Seminary students started a “live-in” in the UTS main lobby on Sunday evening in protest of the suspension and eviction of a student. The demonstration continued into Monday. According to a handout distributed by an organizer, the school issued the suspension “over a Slack post” that the student made. The student, identified as “IAM,” was disciplined “without any community input or restorative justice,” according to the handout.

The demonstration draws from an international initiative , started by a support group for the Bibas family, encouraging the public to dress in orange in solidarity with the family on Wednesday. Hamas still holds Shiri, Yarden, their two-year-old son Kfir, and their five-year-old daughter Ariel Bibas hostage.
