Dayle Rooney capped a man-of-the-match display with his first goal of the season as Bohemians defeated champions Shelbourne in a cracking north Dublin derby at Dalymount Park. It was a night to forget for Shelbourne who, with head coach Damien Duff absent as he served a suspension, had both captain Mark Coyle and Ali Coote sent off while coach David McAllister was also dismissed from the dugout. Shels have now just one win in seven games since beating Bohemians at Tolka Park a month ago.

A penalty miss in the shootout by Ruaidhrí Higgins helped Bohemians win their last FAI Cup in 2008 but he’s the one nowadays with double ambitions in his grasp as Derry City manager. Michael Duffy was his reliable executioner here at a packed Dalymount in sealing a second final place in the space of three years, scoring a brace with a long-distance strike apiece in each half. Only a brilliant stoppage-time save denied the flying winger his hat-trick.

Drogheda United ended their near-year-long wait for an away win in the league with a back-to-the-wall victory at Dalymount Park. It had been a long 360-day wait for three points on the road and thanks to a first half Frantz Pierrot strike, Drogheda not only put the unwanted record to bed but earned a huge three points in their battle to avoid automatic relegation.
