The GWM Tank 500 PHEV has been locked in for a local launch in the third quarter of 2025 as the Chinese brand looks to simultaneously expand its range of off-roaders and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). The Tank 500 large SUV was launched as a rival to the Toyota LandCruiser Prado and Ford Everest off-roaders in 2024 and remains available only with a non-plug-in hybrid powertrain – the first large, body-on-frame SUV in Australia to offer such a powertrain.

The 2025 Haval Raptor could arrive in Australian showrooms in both petrol and hybrid forms following the launch of a non-hybrid version in China. The boxy-looking GWM Haval Raptor is a five-seat mid-size SUV based on the same underpinnings as the Haval H6, with similar dimensions to the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai Tucson.

The Toyota bZ4X is no more in the United States – instead, the carmaker has announced its Tesla Model Y rival will be known as the Toyota bZ from the 2026 model year. The 2026 Toyota bZ is a facelift of the Japanese brand’s first mass-market electric car and – in addition to the new name – brings tweaked exterior styling, more power, and battery upgrades.

A group of employees from electric carmaker Tesla have written an open letter to company CEO Elon Musk demanding he step down – with at least one worker claiming he was fired as a result. The letter was posted on a website called Tesla Employees Against Elon, with the site’s homepage including the sub-head ‘Tesla is ready to move on’. The letter, addressed to ‘Whom It May Concern’, says “Tesla is at a pivotal moment”.
