Goals are the cornerstones of modern living. You’re told you must have goals. That striving toward goals, making choices that would further them, will lead to success. Your goals are supposed to define you. Coincidentally, the Insecure Writers Support Group post for this month is in answer to this question: if you could be anyone, who would you like to be? To quote :If for one day you could be anyone or *thing* in the world, what would it be?

I’ve spoken (and hosted blog guests) about libraries before, but having seen posts on social media about the benefits of libraries to readers, I thought it might be nice to consider how they benefit authors. Libraries act as a place of refuge, a quiet sanctuary you can visit and relax in for a while regardless of your social status, because entry is free.

Book reviews are for readers. This is an oft-repeated catch-all phrase repeated often in the literary community. Recently, in a group discussion, an author expressed an opinion about reviews: we must keep reviews honest. So, if we authors as readers don’t like a book, we should feel fine with expressing that opinion in public. This is irrespective of the impact of said review on its author, because authors have no business reading the reviews of their own books. I disagree.

My apologies to everyone who told me they write to heal from pain, and I didn’t believe them. I said I understood, but I didn’t. Not really. Sometimes a book you write is indeed all about pain and its healing. The heart and mind may have let go, but the body remembers. My body hurts as I put the final (for now) touches on this one, and I’m sending it to love and light. I’ve discovered that the author life is not for the weak of heart. On occasion, pain is a lesson.

AI in Writing: The Future of Creative WritingAI in writing is here to stay. Doesn’t matter that I want no part of it, because, like chronic diseases, or artificial junk food, AI in writing is now a fact of life. Many authors have begun to call themselves author-preneurs. They use the ‘help of AI’ and are loud and proud about it. People I love tell me I must ride the wave or drown. I do use spell check / grammar-check. I’m aware that’s AI, but not one that replaces my creative spark.
