Ethan Kagy (Dalton), Chad Spurlock (Loudonville), Ben Kobus (Norwayne) and Andrew Johnson (Waynedale) all have officially been selected to lead their respective school districts in recent weeks and area poised to begin the new sports season.

You name it and the 2023 area girls cross country season had it. From an historic season by Rittman, to a record-setting year by Kaitlyn Carr of Smithville, the local course was dominated by a host of standout performances. Rittman finished runner-up at the Division III state meet, thanks to a balanced team effort, while Carr overcame a midseason illness to have the best postseason of any individual runner en route to a third-place state showing.

With the area's first state champ in over three decades, along with a handful of other All-Ohio runners and championship-caliber teams, the 2023 boys cross country season was one for the books. Rittman's Luke Snyder became the first local to win a title in the spot since Triway's Tom Woods did it in 1988, while fellow Division-III runners Kade Tegtmeier of Northwestern and Jackson Varner of Waynedale earned all-state honors.
