A divided Indiana Supreme Court has set a May 20 execution date for the state to end the life of a 44-year-old man who shot and killed a suburban Indianapolis police officer. According to court records, Benjamin Ritchie was convicted of murder and other crimes, and sentenced to death in 2002, for the Sept. 29, 2000, fatal shooting of 32-year-old Beech Grove Police Officer William Toney. Ritchie's conviction and death sentence have been affirmed by every court that's reviewed them.
