Community groups shouldn’t be deterred from challenging on shore windfarm development following a recent High Court decision, which has supported a major renewable project in East Clare. That’s according to Sean Conway who was the second applicant with the Fahybeg Windfarm Opposition Group who took a Judicial Review against the respondent An Bord Pleanála for granting planning approval to the notice party RWE Renewables Ireland Limited.

A Tuamgraney bee keeper stung almost 3,500 competitors by becoming the first Clare athlete to win the Cork City Marathon recently. Chris Jeuken left other runners trailing in his wake with a very impressive time of two hours 18 minutes and 56 seconds – six minutes before the runner up Michael Fox crossed the finish line after this gruelling 26.2 mile race. In fact, the former talented cyclist finished just 18 seconds short of the course record of two hours 18 minutes and 37 seconds.

A major upgrade of the Killaloe Water Treatment Plant is now complete, future proofing the local water supply for years to come.

A Newmarket-on-Fergus-based fabricator has developed a new waste heat harvester, which he says harnesses half of the heat that is wasted in open fires and stoves. John Crennan, who works in engineering and fabrication for a Cork company, says he always had an innovative mind and enjoys looking at ways of improving equipment. Mr Crennan hopes to have this unit manufactured locally under licence or is willing to consider leasing the patent.
