A Tuamgraney bee keeper stung almost 3,500 competitors by becoming the first Clare athlete to win the Cork City Marathon recently. Chris Jeuken left other runners trailing in his wake with a very impressive time of two hours 18 minutes and 56 seconds – six minutes before the runner up Michael Fox crossed the finish line after this gruelling 26.2 mile race. In fact, the former talented cyclist finished just 18 seconds short of the course record of two hours 18 minutes and 37 seconds.

A Newmarket-on-Fergus-based fabricator has developed a new waste heat harvester, which he says harnesses half of the heat that is wasted in open fires and stoves. John Crennan, who works in engineering and fabrication for a Cork company, says he always had an innovative mind and enjoys looking at ways of improving equipment. Mr Crennan hopes to have this unit manufactured locally under licence or is willing to consider leasing the patent.

North Clare was united in grief at the weekend as thousands bade farewell for a former talented Ennistymon GAA and Clare footballer. Éanna Rouine (20), Cregg, Lahinch, died on May 27, 2025 in St James’s Hospital Dublin, surrounded by his loving family and friends. His reposal and Funeral Mass was one of the biggest ever seen in North Clare for years as Lahinch and Ennistymon came to a standstill for hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Seriously ill patients have left the overcrowded Emergency Department in University Hospital Limerick (UHL) to travel long distances to other acute hospitals in Kerry and Galway, a lobby group has claimed. Marie McMahon of the Mid-West Hospital Campaign confirmed the group has been contacted by several patients in recent weeks who have gone to the ED in UHL, witnessed the large number of people waiting and made the decision to travel to hospitals in Galway and Kerry.
