A COMMONER’S plan to demolish and rebuild a dilapidated shed on land in Winsor has been rejected for a second time at appeal. The resident had applied to the national park authority for permission to replace the outbuilding in the grounds of Sydney Cottage in Winsor Road last year, but the proposal was refused. The applicant lodged an appeal against that decision with the Planning Inspectorate, but this has now also been rejected.

MEN from the Waterside area are invited to register for a cancer test screening taking place this Saturday (19 July). Up to 500 men can register to have their prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels tested at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton between 10am and 3pm. Men aged 50 to 80 with a family history of prostate cancer, or men of Black ethnicity aged 40 and above, are eligible for the free testing.

A PROPOSAL to build a “mini” battery electrical storage unit in an undeveloped part of the New Forest has been rejected. GridSource Ltd was seeking NFDC’s permission to install and operate the battery and other ancillary buildings on land west of the A337 Christchurch Road at Downton. The authority’s landscape team objected to the development alongside others who said it would be “totally out of place” and an “inappropriate development” in the Green Belt.

A new footpath that connects existing routes at a town recreation ground has been opened. Lymington and Pennington Town Council said it is pleased to announce its amenities committee has appointed a contractor to install the path at Buckland Recreation Ground, connecting Fennel Gardens to the existing path across the site. The new path is meant to improve access to the grounds, particularly for wheelchair users and other people with limited mobility, especially during wet weather.

PROPOSALS to build 93 new homes on agricultural land in Calmore have been submitted to district planners. Shorewood Homes is eyeing 5.5 hectares of land south of the A36 Salisbury Road and east of Calmore Croft Farm to build a mix of private and affordable homes. If given the go ahead, the development would include new vehicle, pedestrian and cycle access points, play provision, open spaces, drainage and landscaping, and alternative natural recreational green spaces.
