New driving duo Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz will be seeking to elevate fortunes at Williams for the 2025 Formula 1 season. An offseason overhaul of design and manufacturing processes meant Williams started 2024 on the backfoot with an overweight car. The team spent a large portion of the campaign stripping back that weight and thus only added a true performance package at the Dutch Grand Prix in August.

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has admitted “we don’t know where are” with 2026 Formula 1 engine development. 2026 will see the introduction of new power unit (PU) regulations in F1. Sustainable fuels will be implemented, the MGU-H will be scrapped and there will be an approximate 50/50 power split between electric and internal combustion. Mercedes is hotly tipped to be a PU front-runner in 2026, as it was when the hybrid era of F1 began in 2014.

FIA Formula 3 graduates Gabriele Mini and Luke Browning lead the latest driver announcements as the 2025 Formula 2 grid takes shape. Mini and Browning both starred in this year’s F3 title chase with Prema and Hitech respectively, finishing second and third respectively in the Drivers’ Championship. Both have since made their debuts in F2, Mini with Prema in Azerbaijan and Browning with ART Grand Prix in Azerbaijan, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Lando Norris led a dominant McLaren one-two in the second practice session of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Norris clocked in a best time of 1:23.517s, two-tenths ahead of team-mate Oscar Piastri, who in turn was a further two-tenths clear of the rest of the field. The evening session at the Yas Marina Circuit was important for two reasons. Firstly conditions were more representative compared to what the drivers will experience in Qualifying and the race.

Charles Leclerc is relishing a “special” moment with his brother Arthur as they prepare to contest FP1 at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix together with Ferrari. Arthur Leclerc has been selected by Ferrari to fill its rookie requirement in opening practice at the Yas Marina Circuit and the post-season test. That makes the Leclerc duo the first brothers to compete in a competitive F1 session with the same team in the history of the sport.
