Just a few months ago, Shedeur Sanders was in discussion to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. The event's first 32 picks have come and gone without the Colorado quarterback finding a home in the pros. Tomorrow is, of course, a new day, and Sanders enters the second day of the draft as the top quarterback on the board. He certainly didn't expect to be in this situation, as evidenced by the elaborate draft party he hosted in Boulder.

Typically, an NFL franchise will only trade a future first-round pick to jump up into the top of the NFL draft, often to take a quarterback or another game-changing talent. The Jacksonville Jaguars did just that to move up to No. 2 to select wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter. Hours later, the Atlanta Falcons did the same thing in a much more unconventional move to take Tennessee defensive end James Pearce Jr. with the No. 26 pick.

Entering Thursday, not one of the first-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft had exchanged hands. That changed as the draft began, with the Jacksonville Jaguars swapping picks with the Cleveland Browns, jumping up to No. 2 to select dynamic two-way star Travis Hunter. The Jaguars send the No. 5 pick in the first round, along with the No. 36 pick (second-round), No. 126 (fourth-round) and next year's first-round pick for the right to take Hunter, according to ESPN.

So far, no 2025 first-round picks have exchanged hands ahead of Thursday's NFL draft. If the New York Giants have their way, that may change in the coming hours. The Giants, a team with plenty of holes to fill and incredible pressure on both general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, currently hold the No. 3 pick, with which they're widely expected to target Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter.

In a few short hours, Matthew Golden's life will change. The Texas wide receiver—who posted an impressive 58-catch, 987-yard, nine touchdown season and ran a 4.29 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine—is expected to be one of the first pass catchers off the board along with Travis Hunter and Tetairoa McMillan. A new NFL player's first big purchase after he lands his rookie contract is a big talking point in the days after the draft.
