The latest maneuver by Kansas anti-abortion zealots to override Kansans’ clearly expressed desire for abortion to remain legal in Kansas is a bill creating tax exemptions for fetuses and mandating fetal development classes in public schools. Make no mistake: This bill is a means to effectuate abortion opponents’ ultimate goal, which is to grant personhood to fetuses and thus accord them all the rights granted to actual out-of-the-womb human beings under the U.S. Constitution.

Credit where credit is due. I took the trouble of perusing the list of 807 law firms that signed an amicus brief supporting Jenner & Block, one of the mega law firms targeted by one of trump’s lawless executive orders. Jenner & Block became the object of his wrath, it appears, because it once employed Andrew Weissman, who worked on Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
