Paul Goldschmidt has done a lot in what’s been a 15-year career in the majors, but Sunday’s pinch-running appearance was a first for him — and he made it worthwhile. Goldschmidt, sitting for a second straight game as Aaron Boone tries to find playing time for the team’s left-handed hitters versus righty starters, replaced Giancarlo Stanton following Stanton’s single in the bottom of the eighth of a 4-2 win over Baltimore.

All game long, the Yankees waited for a big hit as they tried to get by the Orioles. They had a golden chance in the sixth, another good one in the seventh and then — finally, in the eighth — Jazz Chisholm Jr. delivered. JT Brubaker was built up as a starter after recovering from 2023 Tommy John surgery and then fractured ribs suffered during spring training.

Escarra as Austin Wells’ primary backup, with Ben Rice filling in as well now that Giancarlo Stanton is back in the DH spot.

Anthony Volpe struck out to lead off the bottom of the second inning Saturday, extending his hitless streak to 25 at-bats. But when it looked like it might be another tough afternoon for the shortstop, he hit into some good luck, breaking the skid with a slow roller down the third base line an inning later for his first of three hits in the Yankees’ 9-0 win over Baltimore.

Cashman says Yanks decided yesterday on rehab assignment for A-Rod since he hasn't faced live pitching in 3 weeks.
