Candie Morse, age 72, of Gouverneur, NY passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Modoc, SC. She was born on September 09, 1952 in Watertown, NY to Howard (Lefty) Countryman and Sally Farlinger. Candie graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1970 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Potsdam. She married William “Bill” Morse on September 26, 1987 at the Richville First Methodist Church.

Phyllis F. Myers, age 75 went home to Jesus on May 26, 2025. Phyllis was born in Gouverneur, NY October 10, 1949 to Cyril “Mike” and Daphne E. (Brown) Filiatrault. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1967 earned her BA in Nursing from SUNY Utica-Rome. On November 15, 1969 she married her high school sweetheart, Terrence “Terry” J. Myers and they raised all their children in Gouverneur. Terry passed away on October 31, 2022.

by Rachel Hunter The 2025 Gouverneur Memorial Day Observance was held on Monday, May 26 in downtown Gouverneur. The observance is jointly organized by the Silas Wainwright VFW Post 6338 in Gouverneur and the James Maloy American Legion Post 65 in Gouverneur. The festivities started with the Annual Memorial Day Parade. Traffic control was handled by the Gouverneur Police Department, New York State Police, Village of Gouverneur Department of Public Works, and the Gouverneur Fire Department.

by Rachel Hunter Rochester Regional Health’s St. Lawrence Region Behavioral Health will host the Heroes of Healing: Community Wellness Fair on Saturday, May 31, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Canton Pavilion, 90 Lincoln St., Canton. There is no admission cost to attend the event. The event is being held in recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Month (May 2025).

Charles Frederick Goodnough, 76, passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 9, 2025 at Loretto Health & Rehabilitation, Syracuse, NY, and had previously been cared for at Keepsake Village, Syracuse, NY. Born on June 28, 1948 in Watertown, NY, to Charles Merle and Mary G. Warrick Goodnough. He was raised in Theresa and attended Theresa Elementary School. During high school he was an exceptional athlete, playing baseball, football and wrestling.
