Then came the jarring news that the days of the annual Red-White game had sadly come to an end. Although the Husker season opener is over 200 days away, I thought it would be a good time to take a quick look at what kind of competition NU will face this fall. Gone are Ohio State, Indiana, Colorado and Wisconsin (NU went 2-2 last year against them), Back after a one year absence are Minnesota and Northwestern. Sometime during the 2025-26 college academic year, all 134 D-1 college football programs are expected to trim a total of about 3,000 players from their collective rosters. The reason? There is an NCAA rule that will impose roster limits of 105 on all D-1 college football programs. Let's look at the Husker numbers.
