Skip to main contentThe LSU Tigers went into Monday facing a win-or-go-home game against upset-minded Little Rock in the Baton Rouge Regional. They’d go down 5-1 quickly in the second inning. Despite that, head coach Jay Johnson never held a team meeting in the dugout. Those dugout meetings aren’t uncommon for Johnson. However, as he put it after the game, he didn’t feel he needed one because of how his players were handling themselves.

In the end, the Baton Rouge Regional ended up with host LSU winning. That wasn’t a surprise but Tigers head coach Jay Johnson knows his team was nearly eliminated at the hands of Little Rock in what would have been a massive upset. After the game on Monday, Johnson explained that even though the Tigers face elimination, there wasn’t panic. Instead, his team remained focused as much as possible on the task at hand. “I didn’t watch any games today,” Jay Johnson said.

The Miami Hurricanes knew their season was on the line Monday in the Hattiesburg Regional against Southern Miss. In that environment, mistakes are typically magnified and there’d be no exception made for how head coach JD Arteaga used his bullpen. In the end, Arteaga turned to his bullpen early and was generally quick to make moves. That was logic that he broke down after the win, explaining it’s difficult to script out an elimination game. “It’s a must-win, or elimination game,” JD Arteaga said.

Skip to main contentThe Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Patty Gasso have been the dominant force in college softball in recent seasons. However, after getting eliminated by the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Sooners won’t be able to add to their national championship total. After the game, Gasso was emotional. She both praised her team’s effort and reflected on missing out on the chance to win another championship. At the same time, she admitted that nobody outside of the program feels bad.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament after an emotional Knoxville Regional. For head coach Tom Walter, those emotions appeared to boil over when cameras caught him shouting what appeared to be a homophobic slur. The moment, which was deciphered by lip-reading, would be replayed consistently after the fact. Now, Wake Forest and AD John Currie and Tom Walter himself have released statements regarding the incident.

It’s funny because he’s still talking about an Alabama team that lost to Vanderbilt and a bad Oklahoma team and then got smoked by a depleted Michigan with no QB in their bowl.

Greg Sankey is laying the groundwork for a serious change to the CFP selection committee’s criteria, describing his conference as “not like any other” and its schedule “stands alone.” “I do think there is a need for change. How do you explain some of the decisions made?”
