After a significant post-GameCube slump, the Mario Party franchise showed signs of new life in its first two titles on the Switch. While both Super Mario Party and Mario Party Superstars were commercial successes and well-received by fans, the former leaned a bit too heavily on a new Ally system while the latter was essentially a "greatest hits" of classic maps and minigames.

More than any other game company, Nintendo loves to play with its history. Just look at how many times the NES library has reappeared across virtually every console era--remakes in Super Mario All-Stars, re-releases on Game Boy Advance, playable titles in Animal Crossing, the Wii Virtual Console, NES Remix on Wii U, and NES World Championships on Switch. Characters like Pauline from Donkey Kong can disappear in the mid-'80s and suddenly reappear decades later.

At Gamescom 2024 Kurt and Dan spent 30 minutes with Sonic x Shadow: Generations, and saw a modernised version of Sonic: Generations alongside a Bowser's Fury-esque adventure featuring Shadow. Turns out it's exactly what you'd expect from a modern Sonic title, but with added thrash metal.
