It’s a tale of two halves this week: Haze for one half, rain the next. Wildfire smoke will continue to dim the skies over the Midwest, as lots of sun warms us to the 80s. There is a chance that smoke will mix down to ground level, particularly Tuesday — those with sensitive respiratory issues should keep a close eye on it.

Outside of a few lingering sprinkles this morning east of I-75, we’ll be dry and warming up through at least the midweek. Highs near 70F will be the order of the weekend with a northwest breeze (and a chance of haze aloft from Canadian wildfires Sunday/Monday). Heat and humidity will slowly climb under lots of sunshine: 80F by Monday, mid-80s Tuesday, and near-90F Wednesday with an added push of humidity.

Scattered showers will redevelop in time for the evening commute, though it won’t amount to much (under 0.1″). Today will easily be the coolest day of the next several, warming to the mid-70s by Friday with a few thundershowers from the north later that evening. The weekend appears dry near 70F, with a big warmup thanks to high pressure next week: between 85-90F for much of the first work week of June. After a lovely (though cooler than average) holiday weekend, rain looks to return tonight with scattered showers likely throughout Wednesday. Amounts should average out to 1/4″. A few more spotty showers are possible Thursday, with an eye on thundershowers developing late Friday with highs in the mid-70s. The lead-in to June will be pleasant again — mostly sunny in the low-70s — with a big warmup next week to the 80s, possibly even close to 90F, as high pressure builds over the Eastern US.

Outside of a few morning sprinkles west of I-75, we’ll stay dry for the rest of the holiday weekend: mid-60s today, upper-60s Monday. Tuesday’s lake breeze won’t influence temps too much, though we’ll be watching rain to the southwest by the evening — with the highest rain chance of the week coming Wednesday. It’ll be another breezy close to the work week, as highs make a run at the mid-70s by Friday with a few thundershowers to track.
