    Japanese telecoms giant SoftBank has broken ground on a new data center in Tomakomai, Hokkaido. Local press including Nikkei report SoftBank this week has begun construction of a large-scale data center in Tomakomai. Plans for the Hokkaido Data Center were first announced in November 2023 alongside its subsidiary, IDC Frontier. Up to half of the cost will be covered by subsidies from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

    ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has broken ground on its third Indonesian data center in Jakarta and topped out its second. “Contributing new capacity to Indonesia’s expanding digital economy, we mark a major milestone by topping off STT Jakarta 2 and breaking ground on STT Jakarta 3,” the company said on LinkedIn this week.

    CleanArc Data Centers has secured new investment from a real estate investor. The company this week announced that Townsend Group has made a strategic investment in the company. Terms of the deal were not shared, but existing investor Snowhawk retains a majority share in the data center firm. CleanArc said the investment will support the company’s growth. "We're excited to welcome Townsend as a strategic investment partner," said James Trout, founder and CEO of CleanArc.

    Aligned Data Centers has broken ground on a new facility in Phoenix, Arizona. “We celebrated Aligned Data Centers' groundbreaking for building #2 as part of their 100-acre campus with over 1 million sq ft of data hall space,” Loraine German, deputy director at the City of Glendale’s office of economic development, said this week on LinkedIn. – Loraine German | City of Glendale via LinkedIn Aligned has yet to comment on the news or provide any information on the facility.

    Colt has sold a portfolio of data centers to European data center operator NorthC. Colt Technology Services this week announced the divestment of six facilities in Germany and the Netherlands to DWS-owned NorthC, as well as two in the UK to DWS separately. Terms of the deal were not shared. The data centers were part of the assets Colt gained with its acquisition of Lumen EMEA in 2023.
