SoftBank breaks ground on data center campus in Hokkaido, Japan

Japanese telecoms giant SoftBank has broken ground on a new data center in Tomakomai, Hokkaido. Local press including Nikkei report SoftBank this week has begun construction of a large-scale data center in Tomakomai. Plans for the Hokkaido Data Center were first announced in November 2023 alongside its subsidiary, IDC Frontier. Up to half of the cost will be covered by subsidies from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
STT GDC breaks ground on third Jakarta data center, Indonesia

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has broken ground on its third Indonesian data center in Jakarta and topped out its second. “Contributing new capacity to Indonesia’s expanding digital economy, we mark a major milestone by topping off STT Jakarta 2 and breaking ground on STT Jakarta 3,” the company said on LinkedIn this week.
Townsend Group invests in CleanArc Data Centers

CleanArc Data Centers has secured new investment from a real estate investor. The company this week announced that Townsend Group has made a strategic investment in the company. Terms of the deal were not shared, but existing investor Snowhawk retains a majority share in the data center firm. CleanArc said the investment will support the company’s growth. "We're excited to welcome Townsend as a strategic investment partner," said James Trout, founder and CEO of CleanArc.

Colt Technology Services sells European data centers to NorthC

Colt has sold a portfolio of data centers to European data center operator NorthC. Colt Technology Services this week announced the divestment of six facilities in Germany and the Netherlands to DWS-owned NorthC, as well as two in the UK to DWS separately. Terms of the deal were not shared. The data centers were part of the assets Colt gained with its acquisition of Lumen EMEA in 2023.
Soluna acquires land in Texas for 166MW crypto/AI campus

Crypto and AI data center firm Soluna has acquired land in Texas for a new campus. The company this week announced it has signed definitive agreements to secure two parcels of land required to build Project Kati in Texas. Project Kati is set to offer 166MW and potentially host both Bitcoin mining and artificial intelligence (AI) facilities. The shovel-ready project will be delivered in two 83MW phases.
Germany’s DCP buys land in Mainz for 40MW data center

German data center investor Data Center Partners has acquired land in Mainz for a new facility. – Data Center Partners (DCP) “We are excited to announce that, together with an experienced German investor specializing in digital and energy infrastructure, we have acquired a strategic site in Mainz to develop a sustainable, modular data center,” the company said on LinkedIn last week. DCP said the MNZ1 site comes with a 40MW grid connection and aims to launch services in 2028.

Russia’s X5 Group plans 10MW data center in Moscow

Russia’s largest food retailer is building a new data center in Moscow. X5 Group last week announced that construction had started on its data center. The 6,000 sqm (64,583 sq ft) 10MW facility is due to go live in Q3 2026. It will use an outside air cooling system. The Tier III-quality data center will host the company's own IT systems, including logistics, analytics, and trade management.
Officials grant data center project in Kansas City tax breaks

A data center campus linked to Google has secured tax breaks from local officials in the Northland area of Kansas City, Missouri. First reported by the Kansas City Star, the Port Authority of Kansas City’s development committee this week voted to recommend the issuance of up to $10 billion in bonds for a data center under the codename Project Mica.
